Never…
Wear red lipstick
Unless your overall look is the kind of '40s revival chic being enjoyed by many hip youngsters at the moment (in which case it compliments the look perfectly) red lipstick will cry ‘tramp'. Even if you're wearing it in a stylish, rather than slutty, way, it might not come across like that. Guys will likely have less knowledge and awareness than you do when it comes to style, and might jump to the wrong conclusion.
Wear too high a heel
Heels are good, (we are not suggesting you rock up in your ballet pumps) but you might want to impose a 2.5-3 inch maximum. Anything higher than this and you might run the risk of looking trampy on your first date (not to mention making shorter guys feel even smaller!).
Go too high fashion
Of course, if this is your schtick and you refuse to tone things down, by all means reveal your natural high style. However, if you often dress smart casual but go in for more of a ‘kooky' look at parties, then tonight is probably not the time to look your very best. As we all know, men don't quite get ‘fashion' in the same way we do and may simply think you are badly dressed. Make a classically chic impression, and then ‘educate' him to more stylish ways later!
Reveal too much flesh
We hope this one is obvious, but you never know. As before, it will only give one impression. And worse still, it might embarrass your date, which is ideally to be avoided at all costs.
Wear something new and ‘experimental'
In the hope to give yourself an energised vibe, or create a ‘new you' (perhaps this is a first date after a break up?) it might be tempting to buy something daring that you wouldn't normally go for. This is ill-advised. The end result will likely be either that you don't feel entirely comfortable in your new look, which will come across as a lack of confidence, or you'll be wearing something unflattering. In this instance, better the devil you know is definitely best.

Steal Her Style…

Rachel Bilson has an enviable natural style that always looks impossibly chic - without ever looking like she's trying too hard. Totally effortless, she embodies that classy LA look of the perfectly groomed and impossibly stylish - with a slightly grungy edge.
From her tousled brown locks to her petite frame wrapped in the season's latest styles, she is one actress who clearly knows her fashion. Here are some ways in which you can emulate her look:
Brightly coloured jeans or trousers
Rachel has swapped her perma-floaty skirts for a more modern, tailored look of late. Without wanting to play it too safe though she is often seen in brightly coloured trousers with jazzy details such as funky zips on the leg.
Teeny shorts
Suiting the LA sunshine Rachel is often spotted showing off her perfect legs in a tiny pair of shorts, usually in a light denim. She always sticks to the old adage of ‘only legs, chest or arms' and regularly pairs her short shorts with long and floaty cardigans, making her look eminently more stylish - without losing the cute.
Layering
When out and about in casual clothes Rachel cleverly makes an outfit immediately more interesting by adding layers to it, giving texture, depth and class to her overall look. Often seen sporting chunky scarves, the big knits complement her tiny frame.
Jeans
In addition to the aforementioned trousers, Rachel often wears her trusty denim jeans. She'll sometimes wear a (carefully selected) scruffy pair, teemed with a vest and flip flops but will add telling luxury touches to indicate her style nous – designer handbags, immaculate make up and chunky jewellery. She really knows how to balance boho chic with natural elegance.
Sunglasses
What Hollywood actress would be without a pair of paparazzi shields? Make like Rachel – the bigger and blacker the better.

There are many different wedding dress codes and they vary not only from country to country, but in different cities, climates, seasons, and from black tie to casual attire. One season that seems to bring confusion about what to wear is winter.
This wedding season can be a difficult one to dress for as, with the cold weather, it may be take a lot of work to know what to wear that not only looks good, but that won't let you catch a cold either.
Every woman wants to look good at a wedding, so how can you be sure you get it right? Try following these tips:
If it is a black tie wedding, women are expected to wear full length evening gowns. If not, then you must consider the location. .jpg)
Some couples are going for the classic outdoor wedding, which, as beautiful as it may seem, could leaving you wanting to go home for a cup of hot chocolate, next to the fireplace, if you are not wearing the appropriate clothing. Maxi-dresses are convenient for the event to keep your legs warm and sleeves are also suggested, although a strapless dress can go well with a wrap or bolero jacket.
Deep rich colours are the norm (no bright summer colours) along with a cape or coat. A fur coat is often suggested as it is warm and adds to an elegant look.
If the wedding is held indoors and is not a black tie or church wedding, you can opt for something that may show a bit more; appropriately. Avoid plunging necklines or high slits.
Some wedding receptions are held in restaurants and, if it is a more casual attire wedding, you can get away with wearing slacks and a cashmere sweater. But come on ladies, it is your chance to wear a dress, so go all out.

Vintage fashion is popular these days, and it may be easier than you think to pull off the look. You may already own some pieces from past eras, without realising it. Or, if you don't think you own something vintage, ask gran if you can borrow her clothes.
A 60s vintage piece that you are likely to own is the mini-skirt. This piece of clothing was brought into style in the 60s by Mary Quant, making it something that not only inappropriately dressed girls wore, but a stylish look that is still popular today.
What about those old 70s style flared trousers you used to wear? Try combining them with a tucked-in fitted top to balance the look.
That ugly floral scarf your mother always loved? That might just add the perfect vintage touch to your khaki trousers and button-up shirt.
How about the 20s? The style of this era will look great on you if you're on the slender side. You may not own a vintage 20s dress, but you might just have all the right accessories. Once you find the perfect dress at a vintage shop, look in your closet for ballet shoes or flats with straps across the ankle, put on some stockings and
Looking for comfortable vintage? That long flowing skirt your mum passed down to you might just do the trick with a loose modern top and the right accessories. This bohemian look can make you peace and look cool whilst you're doing it.
One more accessory to add to a vintage look is, of course, the handbag. Your mother may still own one from back in the day and, if she's willing to part with it, you've got yourself one of the hottest vintage items on the market.

Smiling Is Fashionable

There is one woman’s fashion accessory that owners can never leave at home: a smile. This can be done subtly or by showing a wide array of glistening white teeth, and at all times comes from a deep inside feeling that projects positivity to all of those around you. Gone are the days when looking moody was cool, it’s now hip to be happy and have a grin across your face. Smiling reflects your inside attitude. Make the smile sincere. Even smile without necessarily feeling the need to will change the inside frown upside down. During all public interactions (at a sales counter, on the bus, passing a neighbor on the sidewalk) it expresses the essentials of being a human being. Taoists suggest that smiling is the best natural medicine one can give to oneself. Try giving most people that you come into public contact with a smile and see if one is exchanged in return. After trying this once or twice, flash a smile more often because it makes you feel warm inside. A smile projects. People in public know who is smiling and who is not. People who smile become more approachable, even friends and family will feel more apt to share a conversation or give a compliment. A smile makes a woman look sexy and adds an intriguing sparkle to a pretty skirt, heels or a new hairdo. Dazzle that smile. Keeping the smile cute is a matter of keeping the face and lips clean. Add a dab of lipstick, of a matching shade, or some chap stick to sparkle the lips. Glistening along with the whiteness of teeth is a nice touch. Don’t overdo a smile by making it too big, practice with every pass of the mirror. Don’t be afraid to show it off in the bathroom, and consider it as jealousy if you catch other ladies glancing your way.

In Search of Deals

You are in London, enjoying all the sights and sounds, history and entertainment, when you realize “I haven’t gone shopping.” Before you rush off to the nearby shops on fashion packed Oxford Street, take some time to find when or where to buy quality but affordable clothing. One big mistake many tourists and even locals make is that they don’t take the time to look for deals and end up buying too little for too much. With just a little bit of effort and a little bit of information, you can be well on your way to owning a brand new wardrobe for less than you imagined. There are many brand name and popular stores that occupy Oxford Street such as Zara, Addidas, Moss, Jane Norman, Selfridges, and Marks and Spencer, just to name a few and if you take the time to check online for the dates when most of these stores have season sales, well, it may be worth the wait. One secret worth knowing is that all the designer shops put clothes on sale at the same time, so set aside a big slot of time (preferably weekdays in the morning to avoid big crowds) to shop until your heart’s content. If you are looking for deals, and brand names don’t matter as much to you, then go on over to Beyond Retro on Cheshire Street. There you will find plenty of vintage deals while you rummage through the clothes next to fashion students. Other vintage stores to check out with bargain prices are Thea Vintage and Absolute Vintage.

How to Look Chic This Winter

The summer dresses and hip shades are out of season and many of us are getting a little bored with winter coats. Perhaps you feel a little “blah” and need a pick me up to get you look trendy once again. Fortunately for you there are plenty of ways for you to accessorize this winter. Try a hat. Hats aren’t great just for keeping you warm they can look stylish and cute as well. Try hats that match a variety of clothes, colours and occasions. For example, a soft crusher hat is very popular right now and has been seen on celebrities such as Nicole Ritchie. It’s warm, chic and a lot of fun to wear. Another hat that does the trick of keeping you warm, but also looks great, is the knitted beret – just makes sure it’s tightly knit or else you’re kind of missing the point. Scarves are cosy, warm and stylish as well. Picking the right one shouldn’t be too hard, just be aware that you should combine it with the right materials, colours and texture of your coat and other accessories you might be wearing. You don’t mix a silk scarf with a bulky sweater or a casual knit with an elegant coat. Scarves can add that perfect touch to a winter outfit, so be sure to have a few on hand. Add a belt to your sweater and over leggings to give a little shape, or add a brightly coloured belt to liven up a plain coloured winter outfit. You have to wear shoes, so why not invest in a couple of pairs of boots this winter? They’re trendy, they’re warm – always a plus in winter - and a lot of fun. You can enjoy matching and combining knee high boots, slouchy booties or fur trimmed ankle boots with your clothes this season.

Samba but Safe

Being among fellow Brazilians in Rio de Janeiro 40 days before Easter during their annual Carnival celebration is en experience full of colour, dance, extraordinary parades, costumes and a complete exposé of sensual pleasure all conglomerated together on the street. While an open armed Christ may welcome all to the city, it is important to keep your wits about you in Rio; here are a couple of precautions you would do well to take note of. More police patrol during this season than any other time of the year. This will make the trip feel more secure, but do watch out for pick-pockets. Carnival season and thousands of tourists that follow it offer an endless pool of victims for these criminals, and a lost wallet can only ruin your experience of the city. Let your desires flow free amongst all of the lights and Samba. If flowing free means flaunting your jewels, then show caution. Do not take valuables that are clearly visible. An expensive gold necklace will draw more unwanted attention and could attract an unwanted follower. A wad of cash or a thick wallet is guaranteed to attract attention as well, so the amount of money taken out should not exceed your budget for the evening. Prepare. Book a hotel that provides a secure place to lock possessions when you’re away. This includes items like a passport, credit card, mobile phone or wallet. Double check you have these before departing the airport. Having to deal with Brazilian immigration upon arrival does not make for a pleasant welcome. When out on the streets of Rio, be canny in where you store your money. Zipped pockets are advisable, and it’s obviously good advice to carry valuables on the front of your person as opposed to the back. This advice is very simple, and if made into a habit will not become a hassle. Decide what can be left at home, book the right hotel, double check documents, and don’t flaunt whatever it is you’ve got. Losing photographs of a mesmeric event you may never get to see again would be a crying shame, and being downbeat in such a vibrant city is the last thing you’ll want to do – no one else will be.

Jack in Black

Yes, the little black jacket has a sultry name that possesses an effective fashion effect. Chic, petite and sexy, the jacket is timeless. The black colour isn’t prone to fade and remarkably matches any colour choice and wardrobe piece. Some gutless colours match this piece perfectly: a soft, shiny, baby pink; a deep yellow or deep blue. Jackie Kennedy stunned the public with her simple pieces, one of which included the little black jacket. Her short sleeve and short backed, petticoat style with soft colours is what helped make her fashion sense the envy of women worldwide. This hot look is perfect for autumn and heading into the winter, during the holiday months when a scarf can accompany the jackets’ flap. The stunning wearer in black could try a vintage style, subtle coloured broach to match the clothing underneath. Try a pair of black rimmed glasses or a dab of black eyeliner with mascara to sharpen the touch. A collar on the little black jacket can make any hairstyle stand out, whether done as a relaxed or in a tight bun. Relaxed hair mixes the sharpness with easiness, while a tight bun makes a business style turn more professional. Match the tight bun professional look with a white, long collar to make the neck appear long and elegant. Styles of the jacket do vary, although a suit style is all in the hype, bringing out youthfulness in an older woman. Try a collared shirt with slick pants of a gray or brown shade. Jeans give a more casual feel, with the shirt tucked out and cute dangle earrings. Another style of the little black jacket is the short length cut, similar to that of Jackie Kennedy. This style cuts above the waist, showing more hips. Choose a thick belt to match with any dress that flows out to compliment your figure.
